More science-focused gatherings at local bars and pubs have popped up in the Seattle area in recent years. Free science-focused gatherings have become commonplace in Seattle bars, pubs and breweries. Science on Tap, a monthly gathering at Cafe Arta & Pub inside Third Place Books in Ravenna, offers a 20-minute presentation on topics such as wild bees, climate and health. Speakers give a presentation using a microphone and a slide deck projected onto a screen. Attendees discuss their learnings over beer and Mediterranean plates before joining a 30-minute Q&A segment with the speaker. Since 2015, Astronomy on Tap’s Seattle chapter has tackled questions about the universe, with most speakers being graduate students, professors or postdoctoral researchers from the University of Washington. Astronomy On Tap also features former NASA astronauts and crew members who helped build the James Webb Space Telescope.
