New report finds safety in Seattle has only gotten worse

Seattle dropped in the rankings again in a new report on America's safest cities. Other WA cities like, Tacoma, Vancouver, and Spokane also fared poorly. A new report from WalletHub has found that Seattle has dropped to the 79th safest city in America, down from 59th in the previous year. The study, which examined over 180 cities, included financial security measures such as unemployment rate and the percentage of residents without health insurance. With this drop, Seattle now trails Anaheim, CA, Vancouver, WA, and Newport News, VA. The top 5 safest cities in the country were Juneau, AK, Warwick, RI, Overland Park, KS, Burlington, VT, and South Burlington, Vermont. Despite Seattle ranking high in natural disaster risk and financial safety, it ranks 116th for home and community safety, indicating a major crime crisis. The crime problem is largely due to understaffed police department and lax approach to homelessness.
